As a new years’ resolution, my husband and I promised to jump the gun and book our trip to Iceland for later this year. We were tired of “life” getting in the way and forcing us to accept the idea that our dream adventure was not in our cards that year – as it has year after year.
Thus, as the first week flew by in January 2019, Mike and I purchased our own wings to get to Iceland as well as excursions and hotel accommodations – all in two days. The process was fluid, fast, and easy. As I write this, I am so excited to embark on land of volcanoes, hot springs, waterfalls, and black sand beaches.
Stating that we were going somewhere to the universe was simply not enough. Sometimes actions are the only things we can rely on. We made our dream into a reality by looking at the finances and seeing how we could effectively go without breaking the bank…too hard.
How did I save on bookings?
My credit card was one of my sources of saving on our Iceland trip believe it or not. First, I booked all of my accommodations and waited a couple of days for the points to accrue from it.
Then I was able to apply those points and points I had already accrued years prior. By doing so, I saved way more than I had anticipated and got the hotel and part of a plane ticket paid off. Of course, I would be careful of how you use credit cards as they can end up becoming financial burdens.
My main and second resource comprises of itty-bitty pieces: Mobile applications. I used five apps that helped me plan smarter and thus saving a lot more than Groupon could ever offer.
For example, I was able to match up the best time of year to go to Iceland with the best time to buy plane tickets. I also had apps that helped me compare the market for prices. From sleeping arrangements to pet stays, I had a source of comparison so that I could get the best bang for my buck.
The OOTD Breakdown
This bodysuit is from Nastygal and is one of my all-time fav bodysuits. They are extremely comfortable, and flattering. I bought four in every color and it was the best choice ever. I never have basics and now I will be all set for the rest of the season and this fall.
This statement piece is from Chloe and Isabel and is a great way to spice up any basic into a chic and trendy outfit. The best part is it is convertible where you can change the straps to be this gorgeous navy-blue thread. Of course I had to pair it with matching earrings as well. Though this one is not available currently, you can still find similar options.
